Teaching Endorsements

The Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development offers the required coursework for the following supplemental endorsements that can be added to a Mississippi teaching license. Requirements for Teachers Who HOLD the 105 Business Education, 318 Marketing, or 193 Economics License
405 Business Management This endorsement will update the 105 license to the current 405 license.
Requirements:
  1. Hold a Class "A" or higher standard 105, 113, 318, or 193 teaching license.
  2. IC3 certification. See details for preparation below.
  3. Online Learning Certification Approved by MDE: TKT 4473 (undergraduate) or TKT 6473 (graduate) Methods of Teaching Online (3 semester hours) OR BTE 4213 (undergraduate) or BTE 6213 (graduate) Graduate Methods of Teaching Business Subjects (3 semester hours)
  4. Teacher Preparation Course Based on the Curricula to Be Taught with the 405 license:
    BTE 4213 (undergraduate) or BTE 6213 (graduate) Methods of Teaching Business Subjects (3 semestesr hours). Note: This course also fulfills the requirement for the online learning certification.

411 Business Technology This endorsement will certify a person to teach the following courses in the public schools of Mississippi:

  • Introduction to Information Technology
  • Technology Foundations
Requirements:
(Includes requirements for the 111 Computer Applications endorsement and the courses now required to update the 111 to the 411 Business Technology endorsement.)
  1. Hold a current 5-year standard teaching license.
  2. Validate Competency in the Field of Instructional Technology (3 credit hours optional)
    • Proof of current Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) Certification
    • Teachers may study for the IC3 exam on their own, or take the course below to assist in preparation. Note: Upon completion of the course, student must take the IC3 exam and pass it.
    • BTE 4463 (undergraduate) or BTE 6463 (graduate) Methods of Teaching Business Technology. (online summer)
  3. Teacher Preparation Course Based on the Curricula to Be Taught (3 credit hours)

    Mississippi State University offers the following methods course that includes IC3 preparation and the current curriculum included in the 411 endorsement. Note: Upon completion of the course, student must take the IC3 exam and pass it.

    • BTE 4463 (undergraduate) or BTE 6463 (graduate) Methods of Teaching Business Technology (online summer)
  4. Certification of Online Learning (3 credit hours)

    TKT 4473 (undergraduate) or TKT 6473 (graduate) Methods of Teaching Online (3 semester hours (online summer)

    OR BTE 4213 (undergraduate) or BTE 6213 (graduate) Graduate Methods of Teaching Business Subjects (3 semester hours) (online fall)

Attention Teachers Who Hold the 111 Computer Applications Endorsement and Wish to Update to the 411 Business Technology Endorsement
If a teacher holds the 111 Computer Applications endorsement, the six hours of computer applications listed in #5 above have already been met and are not required to update to the 411 endorsement. Simply complete Items 2-4 above to update to the 411.

982 Information and Communication Technology II This endorsement will certify a person to teach the 7th and 8th grade ICT I and II courses and Technology Foundations in Mississippi public schools.
984 Technology Foundations

Requirements:

  1. Teacher Preparation Course and IC3 Certification: BTE 4463/6463 Methods of Teaching Business Technology. This course includes preparation for the IC3 exam, which is a licensure requirement. (3 semester hours)
  2. Online Learning Certification Course Approved by MDE

IC3 Certification Requirement

Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)

This industry certification is required for career and technical licenses (405,411,981, 982, 983, 984, 917).

Students enrolled in BTE 4463/6463 Methods of Teaching Business Technology will prepare for the IC 3 examination during the course and take the examination at the conclusion of the course.
Test takers may schedule an exam by calling 662-325-2281. Group exams will be given on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in Room 253 of the Industrial Education Building. Please visit Certiport’s website, www.certiport.com for more information about the components of the IC3 examination as well as information about other industry-wide certifications that we can also administer.
