Pi Omega Pi

Pi Omega Pi is a national honor society for student pursuing a degree in business teacher education. The Alpha Pi Chapter of Pi Omega Pi was chartered in 1939 at Mississippi State University and is sponsored by the Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development. Membership in Pi Omega Pi is the highest honor a student majoring in business teacher education can achieve in his/her professional field.

The Alpha Pi chapter boasts of receiving the first-place chapter award in 2011 in recognition of their ranking in the national competition. Brookes Mays, an Alpha Pi member, served a two-year term as national student representative, and Dr. Connie Forde, their adviser, served as the National President of Pi Omega Pi.

Dr. Pamela Scott-Bracey serve as faculty advisors. New members who meet the national society eligibility requirements are initiated at formal initiation ceremonies in the fall and spring semesters.

Alpha Pi members complete the following activities:

  • Plan and participate in local programs and activities sponsored by the chapter,
  • Plan and implement local, community, and national projects for national competition,
  • Attend state business education conferences, and
  • Attend biennial national Pi Omega Pi conventions which meet in conjunction with the National Business Education Association Convention

Fall 2011 Alpha Pi Initiation Ceremony Alpha Pi members conduct formal initiation ceremony each fall and spring semester. Chelsea Rushing, Alpha Pi president, receives special recognition as a 4.0 graduate. Alpha Pi members attended the 42nd National Pi Omega Pi Convention in New Orleans. Brookes Mayes served as national student representative, and Dr. Connie Forde served as National president-elect. Chelsea Rushing and Trevor Portrey were selected as presenters at the 42nd National Pi Omega Pi Convention in New Orleans. Alpha Pi members attend the 42nd Biennial National Convention in New Orleans and honored with second place chapter award for the 2010 competition. Alpha Pi ranks fourth in national competition. Brookes Mayes accepts the fourth place award for Alpha Pi Chapter for the 2009 national competition.
